Wieliczka Salt Mine: A Material Culture World Heritage Site which is among the most eagerly visited tourist sites in Poland.During the seven centuries of salt exploitation, the mine developed into an extensive underground city, mysterious and unique. For years it has admiration and awe towards the power of nature and faculties of man. The two-kilometre-long Tourist Route takes you to: √ Unique chambers with visible traces of the actual exploitation preserved, with a collection of mining machines and equipment. √ Chapels with unique salt sculptures and bas-reliefs: with the world's most beautiful Chapel of St Kinga, situated 101 metres under ground. √ Salt Lakes √ Access: Wieliczka Salt Mine is situated 10 kilometres away from, the centre of Krakow following the E40 road. There are local shuttle trains to Wieliczka from Krakow main rail station, and LUX_BUS minibuses departing every 10 minutes. √ After touring the mines, there are rest chambers 125 metres under the ground, with convenient souvenir shops, post office and restaurant. √ In the underground vaults of the mine, organised conferences, banquets, wedding receptions, grand balls, concerts and sport events take place.
